Marco Asensio’s return to action, scheduled for after the October international break, has been delayed. The player and his club, PSG, are being cautious ahead of the upcoming Champions League clash against Italian giants AC Milan.

On Friday, at the Poissy sports complex on the outskirts of Paris, the Spaniard didn’t train with the rest of his team-mates. Earlier this week, the former Real Madrid man took part in some light jogging and training, but the club’s medical staff still believe that it is still too early for him to return. Barring a last-minute surprise, he will not be involved in Saturday’s Ligue 1 match against Strasbourg.

Asensio’s season

Asensio has made just three appearances for PSG this season, netting twice and registering one assist. He started against Lorient on matchday 1, in a game that ended in a goalless draw, but then did not play a single minute in the draw against Toulouse on matchday 2. In the next two games - before his injury - he scored against Lens and assisted against Lyon on matchday 4 of the season.

Then came his foot injury, during the international break with Spain, which has prevented him from returning to full fitness. PSG confirmed in a medical statement that he was expected to return to action after the October international break, however, neither the player nor the club wanted to take any risks and have subsequently delayed his return.

PSG vs Milan

Asensio’s possible return against Milan at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday has not yet been confirmed, but he is expected to be soon involved fully in training and could even have game time against the Serie A side. The Spain international will be aiming to convince Luis Enrique to start him in a forward line that contains Kylian Mbappé, Randal Kolo Muani, Ousmane Dembélé, Gonçalo Ramos, Bradley Barcola and Kang-in Lee.
