This week will see four of Spain’s top-performing teams of the last year go head to head in a mini-tournament in Saudi Arabia to find out who takes home the Spanish Super Cup.

In 2019, it was announced that the tournament, normally held across Spain, was to move to the Middle East, in a deal struck by then-president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) Luis Rubiales. Since then, all editions of the Super Cup - which used to be a simple two-legged affair - has been a semi-final style mini-competition in the Asian kingdom.

Which teams are in the Spanish Super Cup?

Real Madrid, as as well Osasuna, booked their place in the Spanish Super Cup by getting to the final of the Copa del Rey last year, which was won by Los Blancos.

Barcelona made it to the tournament by winning LaLiga and Atlético Madrid got a ticket to the Middle East by being the next team in line after Real Madrid, who came second in LaLiga but who already had their place in the Super Cup due to their progression in the Copa del Rey.

Spanish Super Cup teams:

  • Real Madrid (Copa del Rey 22-23 finalists)
  • Osasuna (Copa del Rey 22-23 finalists)
  • Barcelona (LaLiga 22-23 winners)
  • Atlético Madrid (next in the league after Real Madrid, who come second in LaLiga but had already qualified)
