Who will Manchester United sign before the end of the summer transfer window?

With just days left in the summer transfer window, we look at Manchester United’s transfer possibilities.

The atmosphere has changed around Old Trafford since Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Liverpool on Monday but the Old Trafford outfit are still looking to add to their squad before the close of the transfer window.

Clubs only have a matter of days to get their business done. The summer transfer window for clubs in the Premier League will close at 11pm BST on 1 September 2022.

Who could United sign before the window closes?

The main name on everyone’s lips is Antony. United have already done business with Ajax this summer, signing Argentine centre-back Lisandro Martínez, who impressed in the victory over Liverpool.

Ajax are holding out for a reported €100m for Antony, who is a priority for Erik ten Hag.

The 22-year-old Brazil international was captured watching the United-Liverpool game on Monday in an Instagram story with his agent, Emerson Santos.

United have failed to add attacking power to their squad this summer. Cristiano Ronaldo’s future remains up in the air, but if he leaves the club, they will certainly need to sign a forward.

Marcus Rashford played through the middle against Liverpool, with Antony Elanga and Jadon Sancho on either side of the England international.

A deal for Antony would likely see Sancho switch to the left, with Rashford keeping his place as the centre piece of the front three.

United signings

Ten Hag has played his part in the summer signings at Old Trafford but will still feel let down, considering the club have failed to make any progress with Frenkie de Jong.

The signing of Casemiro from Real Madrid almost guarantees that De Jong will not reunite with Ten Hag this summer.

Time running out at Old Trafford

Right-wing, up front and right-back are the areas that United would like to strengthen. Aaron Wan-Bissaka could find himself as the third choice right-back if they get a late deal over the line.

Barcelona right-back Sergiño Dest has been linked with a move to United after falling out of favour under Xavi at Camp Nou.

If Antony does eventually join from Ajax, the right-wing position will be covered. Strikers are not easy to find these days, especially when you don’t play Champions League football, and that remains an area of concern.

With just days left in the transfer window, United are running out of time but perhaps beating Liverpool and the atmosphere at Old Trafford the other night can persuade one or two more signings to come through the door.
