Why April 8 carries incredible triple love for Griezmann’s last dance at the Camp Nou
With a milestone date looming, the French forward prepares for an emotional goodbye in a stadium that has shaped his career.

Life is full of firsts, but it rarely warns you about the last ones. You only recognize them when they arrive. Sometimes, though, there are exceptions – moments when you know what’s about to unfold will not happen again. Antoine Griezmann’s decision, at 35, to leave for Orlando at the end of the season and close out his career by fulfilling his long-held American dream means tonight will be his final appearance at Camp Nou. And for the Frenchman, this is no ordinary stadium.
He has stepped onto that field 61 times since his first visit 16 years ago, on December 12, 2010, with Real Sociedad – the club that gave him a chance when his native France had overlooked him for being too slight. He played there four times in those colors. Fifty-six more came in Atlético Madrid’s red and white, across two spells, because in 2019 the ground he had always visited as a rival briefly became his own. His home, his turf.
During his two seasons at Barcelona, Griezmann made 43 appearances at Camp Nou. It was a move driven by ambition, a bid for silverware after leaving Atlético behind. He lifted one trophy – the 2021 Copa del Rey – before returning to the club he had never stopped missing: Atlético. Now, there is a chance to win that same title again, this time in red and white and against Real Sociedad, as if closing a perfect circle.
As a visiting player, he has celebrated just once at Camp Nou – scoring for Atlético in last year’s Copa semifinal, a dramatic 4–4 draw. One goal, and no victories. The only win tied to him on this stage came in the 2024–25 league season, when Barcelona were forced to play as hosts in Cornellà. In a Barcelona shirt, meanwhile, he scored 16 goals at this stadium.
A rivalry balanced at 1–1 now adds another layer to this farewell, with a subtle but pointed exchange between Griezmann and his former club lingering in the background. After Atlético’s Copa elimination last year, Barcelona posted an image celebrating, with Griezmann dejected, alongside the caption: “Is this photo too harsh?” The Frenchman responded in kind this season, using the same line when Atlético knocked Barcelona out to reach the final. Now, it is his turn to celebrate.

Who are Griezmann’s children?
His last appearance at Camp Nou offers a chance to settle that score. And the date adds a personal dimension: April 8 – the birthday of three of his four children, Mia, Amaro and Alba. Perhaps the perfect gift awaits, one he could deliver himself, on a night when everything points to an ending that feels anything but ordinary.
