Why are Real Madrid playing Betis on a Friday?
For the third time in less than two months, Madrid have a Friday game in LaLiga, this time against Betis in Seville.

For the third time in two months, Real Madrid are in LaLiga action on a Friday night, with their Week 32 clash away to Real Betis moved forward from its usual primetime slot.
Why Real Madrid are playing on Friday
When LaLiga released the schedule for Week 32 on April 4, Madrid were preparing to face Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarterfinals.
The Spanish top flight typically tries to give its clubs the best possible conditions for European competition. In this case, it scheduled Madrid’s home game against Girona on the Friday between the two legs of the Bayern tie, giving Álvaro Arbeloa’s team extra time to prepare for the return leg in Munich.

No change despite Champions League elimination
Similarly, LaLiga placed this week’s Betis clash on a Friday ahead of Madrid’s potential Champions League semifinal.
The issue, of course, is that Los Blancos were eliminated by Bayern, so they will not be in action next midweek after all.
Even before the quarterfinal result was decided, there was talk of moving the Betis game to Saturday if Madrid were knocked out. However, no change was ultimately made, and the match will go ahead as originally scheduled on Friday.
How LaLiga schedules matches
Given their global appeal, Real Madrid usually occupy the prime-time weekend slot, which is 9 p.m. local time in Spain and 3 p.m. Eastern Time in the United States.
In Spain, though, games are spread across the weekend to maximize television audiences. Each matchday begins with one game on Friday evening, followed by four games on Saturday and four on Sunday, and concludes with a fixture on Monday.
Unless a Champions League week is approaching, lower-profile clubs tend to feature more often in the less desirable Monday and Friday slots.
