Dani Alves appeared today before the judge of the Investigating Court number 15 after having completed the investigation of the case and having been prosecuted for the rape of a 23-year-old girl on December 30. The Brazilian soccer player, who has been in pretrial detention since January 20, has expressed his disagreement with the facts with which he is accused, but has ruled out appealing his prosecution to “expedite” the procedure and arrive at trial as soon as possible.

Alves was summoned to court at 12:30 p.m. and was transferred there in a Mossos d’Esquadra van from the Brians 2 prison. There, before magistrate Concepción Cantón, he refused to give more versions of the facts.

What is Dani Alves planning to after bail has been set?

Now, the Brazilian’s defense, headed by lawyer Cristóbal Martell, has three business days to appeal the prosecution of his client. In case of not doing so, the prosecution will become final and, after that, the judge will give way to the Prosecutor’s Office and the private prosecution so that they formulate their respective sentence requests.

When this step is completed, the Barcelona Court will establish a day for the holding of a trial that neither Alves nor his defense wants to delay. At the hearing, which is expected to take place either at the end of 2023 or at the beginning of 2024, the Brazilian will face a sentence that could range from 4 to 12 years in prison.

In addition to having been prosecuted and having to appear in the not too distant future as accused of committing a sexual assault, Dani Alves will have to face a bail of 150,000 euros. This amount will be used to advance the possible economic responsibilities that he may have to contract with the victim if so determined in the sentence.
