Update:

Paris Saint-Germain hold a one-goal advantage heading into Wednesday’s Champions League semifinal second leg against Bayern in Munich, where Luis Enrique believes it will feel like a “home” game for his team. However, the former Barcelona coach will likely be feeling slightly less confident about PSG’s chances due to the absence of Achraf Hakimi because of injury.

Hakimi’s absence shifts PSG’s balance

The former Real Madrid academy product, who played 17 games for the LaLiga giants before leaving, initially on loan, in 2018, has developed into arguably the world’s best right-back. Not that Hakimi does a great deal of defending.

Indeed, the Moroccan’s unavailability due to a hamstring tear suffered in last week’s first leg may end up hurting PSG more in attack than in defense.

Who replaces Hakimi against Bayern?

The versatile Warren Zaïre-Emery is likely to replace Hakimi on the right side of the back four, with some voices in the French media suggesting the youngster’s more cautious approach could actually benefit Luis Enrique’s side given the scale of the challenge in Munich.

That said, the attacking talent in the PSG lineup means they will almost certainly be looking to extend their lead rather than simply protect it.

Other than Hakimi and goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier, who had already lost his starting spot before suffering a hamstring injury, Luis Enrique has a full squad to choose from in Munich.

How long will Hakimi be out? Champions League final around the corner

It was reported last week that Hakimi would be sidelined “for a few weeks.” With the Champions League final scheduled for May 30, PSG will hope his recovery goes as smoothly as possible to give him a chance of returning in time, provided they get there.
