Update:

Having been 5-2 ahead in the first leg of their Champions League semifinal against Bayern Munich, there’s a temptation to believe Paris Saint-Germain may live to regret conceding two quick-fire goals in the final 25 minutes at Parc des Princes.

Luis Enrique’s team must now travel to Germany to close out the tie, a daunting task for any club in Europe. Bayern have won 23 of their last 29 home games in the Champions League, losing just once.

On top of that, they have scored at least three goals in five of their six UCL games at Allianz Arena this season, including four against Atalanta in the round of 16, and another four to get past Real Madrid in the quarterfinals.

Bayern tipped to complete comeback

Although they are behind in the tie, many have Bayern as favorites to overturn the deficit and reach their first Champions League final since 2020, when they defeated, ironically, PSG to win the trophy.

Those predictions, however, may be overlooking one important detail.

We will also play at home, even though they will be in their stadium.” Those were the words of Luis Enrique when looking ahead to the second leg after PSG’s thrilling 5-4 win last week.

Why Luis Enrique believes PSG have an edge

It wasn’t that the chaos of the game in Paris had caused the Spanish coach to lose his sense of reality. He was simply referring to the incredibly happy memories his team created in Munich less than a year ago.

“In a week we go to Munich, a stadium we like because we won our first Champions League there,” the former Barcelona coach reminded reporters.

Not only did PSG win their first Champions League there, but they did so in emphatic fashion. Their 5-0 victory over Inter Milan at Allianz Arena remains the largest margin of victory in a final.

The final half-hour, following their third goal, was played in a carnival atmosphere created by PSG supporters, fully aware the trophy was already theirs.

Can PSG relive Munich magic?

PSG will not have that same backing this time, but they believe they can channel that experience to ensure an almost equally enjoyable night in Munich.

Arsenal await in the 2026 Champions League final, which will be played in Budapest, Hungary, on May 30.
