Why Lionel Messi will not play in MLS in 2023
The Argentina international remains in good form at 35-years-old and he will continue to play at the highest level after the World Cup.
Lionel Messi has led the Argentina national team to the semifinals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and his main goal is to win the trophy. The 35-year-old has started all five games at the tournament and he has never been subbed off, playing a total of 480 minutes. Messi is showing no signs of slowing down and he has been the biggest factor for Argentina to be amongst the best four teams at the World Cup.
The Paris Saint-Germain ace has scored four goals and provided two assists in the campaign and he will be the main threat for Argentina when they play against Croatia on Tuesday night at Lusail stadium. Lionel Messi is in very good form and he is showing that he still has what it takes to compete at the highest level despite his age.
Messi’s future is up in the air
Lionel Messi’s contract with PSG expires in the summer, but there is a clause in his current contract that he can extend his stay for one more season. It was reported that the Argentine was going to define his future at club level once the World Cup ended with MLS side Inter Miami a possible destination for him in 2023.
The David Beckham-owned team is ready to make Messi the best paid player in the history of the league, but his arrival will have to wait a bit longer. Now it is being reported that he has two real options on the table once the World Cup is over. The first one will be to stay with PSG for one more season and the second one is to return to Barcelona for the 2023-24 campaign.
