Why was Bernardo Silva given a red card and sent off for Manchester City against Real Madrid in the Champions League?
The Manchester City captain was shown a straight red card in the second leg against Real Madrid.

Bernardo Silva was sent off after just 19 minutes in the UEFA Champions League second leg against Real Madrid, handed a direct red card by the referee.
A delightful passing move from back to front ended with Vini Jr’s shot cannoning off the post; he then met the cross that came back into the box but it was blocked by Bernardo Silva on the line.
A stoppage in play went on for a few minutes as a potential offside for Vini Jr in the buildup was looked it. It was soon cleared but the VAR check continued, a potential penalty now adding to the City nightmare.
Replays showed that Bernardo Silva had blocked the shot with his arm, moving towards the ball before sending it out for a corner.
The referee was called to the screen where it only took a few seconds before he pulled out the red card for the City captain, who headed down the tunnel. Vini Jr put away the penalty and increased his team’s aggregate lead to four goals.
“We still believe it’s possible.” 💬
