Will Kylian Mbappé play on Real Madrid’s 2024 preseason USA tour?
Mbappé was unveiled by the LaLiga giants on Tuesday but is now expected to take some time off. Will he travel to the United States?
Kylian Mbappé's presentation as a Real Madrid player took place on Tuesday (July 16), with 85,000 fans packing into the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu to welcome the French superstar to the LaLiga giants.
With the former Paris Saint-Germain forward having pulled on the famous white jersey in an official capacity for the first time off the field, attention now turns to when he will do so on it.
Los Blancos’ preseason ahead of the 2024/25 campaign began on Monday (July 15), a matter of hours after Spain’s victory over England in the Euro 2024 final and Argentina’s Copa América 2024 triumph against Colombia. As you might expect, though, head coach Carlo Ancelotti will work with a severely reduced roster for a couple of weeks.
Which Real Madrid players won’t be on the 2024 preseason USA tour?
Players who were involved in the two major international tournaments won’t report back for preseason until just before Madrid head off for their tour of the United States on July 28. That includes the likes of Luka Modric, Vinícius Júnior and Rodrygo, who should be part of the travelling party.
But players who reached at least the semifinals of either tournament will be off until August 6. Mbappé, Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Ferland Mendy, Dani Carvajal and Fede Valverde fall into that category, which means they aren’t expected to go to the States.
When will Mbappé make his Real Madrid debut?
During his unveiling, Mbappé was asked whether he would be part of the tour, to which he replied: “I really don’t know, it doesn’t depend on me so much but we’ll talk to the club and the head coach and then make a decision.” Despite his words, there is no suggestion Madrid will look to incorporate their new star into the squad earlier than originally planned.
As a result, the 25-year-old’s debut is likely to come in the UEFA Super Cup against Atalanta, a game which will be played in Warsaw, Poland on Wednesday, August 14.
