Update:

Brazil, Morocco and Scotland all have their future in their own hands heading into the final round of games in Group C, but Haiti can no longer qualify for the knockout stages of the 2026 men’s World Cup.

What happened on Group C matchday two?

The Haitians became the first team to be eliminated from this summer’s finals, after losing 3-0 to Brazil in Philadelphia on Friday evening. Matheus Cunha scored twice for the Brazilians, before Vinícius Júnior added a third, as the Seleção secured its first win of the tournament in North America.

Brazil’s victory leaves them top of Group C on goal difference, ahead of a Moroccan team that beat Scotland later on Friday night. Ismael Saibari struck the game’s only goal after just two minutes in Foxborough - a win that pushed the Scots, group leaders after matchday one, down to third.

So who needs what to qualify from World Cup Group C?

Brazil

Having accrued four points, Brazil have probably done enough already to qualify at least as one of the eight best third-place finishers. Carlo Ancelotti’s men will clinch one of Group C’s two automatic last-32 spots if they avoid defeat against Scotland on Wednesday, and will definitely finish top if they better Morocco’s result against Haiti on matchday three. Brazil will also win the group if they match the Moroccans’ result, as long as the Atlas Lions do not overturn the Brazilians’ plus-two goal-difference advantage.

Morocco

Morocco, whose four-point haul means they’re also likely to qualify no matter what happens, will secure a top-two spot if they win or draw against Haiti on Wednesday. Mohamed Ouahbi’s team can only be certain of winning Group C only if they score more points than Brazil on matchday three.

Scotland

Scotland, who are now set to face Brazil for the fifth time in a men’s World Cup group stage, must beat the South Americans to be sure of finishing in the top two. As Morocco have claimed the head-to-head advantage over Steve Clarke’s side, a draw would not be enough to earn Scotland automatic qualification, even if the North Africans lost to Haiti.

However, a four-point final tally would probably be enough to take the Scots through as a third-place finisher; indeed, their current total could end up being sufficient, depending on their final goal difference.

Haiti

After two straight defeats in Group C, Haiti’s elimination has been confirmed. Sébastien Migné’s team can still finish level on points with Scotland, but Les Grenadiers’ matchday-one defeat to the Scots means they would come fourth anyway, as they would lose out on the head-to-head tiebreaker.
