Another American World Cup? President Donald Trump has big plans for FIFA

President Donald Trump has confirmed that he wants to see the United States host the World Cup again, suggesting that FIFA could announce multiple host nations at the same time to “take out some of the anger.”

Trump was speaking to FOX Sports ahead of the 2026 World Cup final between Spain and Argentina. Throughout the tournament Trump has been closely aligned with FIFA President Gianni Infantino and he admitted that he is eager to see the US given hosting duties again.

President Trump said: “You know, you could have [had] a lot of empty stadiums. Didn’t work out that way. I think I saw 99.9%, and it’s probably wrong, because they were overflowing, actually.”

“But I had a great idea for Johnny. I said, You have to do two countries. Announce us, again, next time. And then [announce] another country after that, and it’ll take out some of the anger in the shock.”

“Now, I think it’s a great idea. Based on the numbers, we will be requesting it again immediately,” Trump explained. “To take out the shock you could announce us and maybe the next one, another, and even another. But we have to do this again. And we have to do while I’m around.”

The 2030 World Cup will be held in Spain, Portugal and Morocco, with one game each to be played in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay to mark the 100-year anniversary of the inaugural tournament in 1930. The 2034 tournament has been awarded to Saudi Arabia.
