Throughout World Cup history, the United States men’s national team has taken some notable non-U.S.-born stars to the tournament.

They include Uruguay native Tab Ramos - who played at three World Cups and was, notoriously, on the wrong end of a Brazilian elbow in 1994. Another memorable example is the Haiti-born Joe Gaetjens, who scored arguably the USMNT’s most famous World Cup goal, netting the header that earned a shock win over England in 1950.

For this year’s World Cup, USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino has named a roster featuring 20 players born on American soil - and six who were born outside the U.S.

USMNT’s non-U.S.-born players at 2026 World Cup:

• Sergiño Dest: born in Almere, Netherlands
• Gio Reyna: born in Sunderland, UK
• Antonee Robinson: born in Milton Keynes, UK
• Malik Tillman: born in Nuremberg, Germany
• Alejandro Zendejas: born in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico

This six-man contingent represents an increase from five in 2022, when then-USMNT boss Gregg Berhalter selected Robinson, Dest and Reyna, plus UK-born Cameron Carter-Vickers and Colombia native Jesús Ferreira.
