The bad news has been confirmed for Marcelo Flores. The Tigres player has revealed the serious injury he suffered in the CONCACAF Champions Cup final and confirmed that he will not represent Canada at the World Cup.

What Flores experienced this weekend was a real roller coaster. Just hours before the regional title match against Toluca, he and his Tigres teammates learned of his call-up to the Canadian national team, which he chose to represent over Mexico months ago.

During the final, the young Tigres midfielder attempted to cut inside the Toluca penalty area when he suffered the injury.

What did Marcelo Flores say about his injury?

Flores admitted he is going through a difficult period and revealed that he tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). The injury will prevent him from recovering in time for the World Cup, and he could even miss the entire next Liga MX season.

“Sorry for not answering anyone yet. These are very difficult times. I tore my ACL (anterior cruciate ligament). I just wanted to thank everyone for their messages. I haven’t been using my phone or checking messages, but I promise to reply to everyone. I really appreciate your concern. I’ll come back stronger,” he said.
