Update:

The stars aligned for Wrexham AFC on Tuesday night. Going into the matchday 44 clash against Oxford, the team knew that they had to win and hope that Hull City slipped up with the Tigers holding the all important sixth position (and final play-off spot) pre kick-off.

The Red Dragons prevailed with a 0-1 win at Oxford and a 2-2 draw between Leicester City and Hull saw Wrexham leapfrog Hull by virtue of goal difference with both teams level on 70 points.

Two critical games incoming

Wrexham now control their own destiny and wins in their final two games at Coventry and home to Middlesbrough would see Phil Parkinson’s side progress to a four-team knockout playoff tournament (5th vs 6th and 3rd vs 4th) with the final held at Wembley.

After the Oxford win, Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney took to X/Twitter and made a tongue‑in‑cheek proposal to Coventry City:

“Congrats to Coventry City!!!! My friend Ryan Reynolds and I would like to offer you a first‑class trip to Vegas. Please be ready in the am and be back in time for kick‑off on Sunday. A little late is okay too.”

The message quickly went viral across football and mainstream media, combining Hollywood flair with sharp competitive humor.

The Vegas offer was widely interpreted as a light‑hearted attempt to distract a title‑winning side that theoretically has less at stake — a psychological nudge rather than a serious suggestion.

The Red Dragons travel to champions Coventry City next Saturday and face Middlesbrough at home a week later. Hull face Charlton Athletic (A) and wrap up their campaign at home to Norwich City.
