Yunus Musah pays tribute to Christian Pulisic in AC Milan interview
The young midfielder spoke about his move to Italy and his burgeoning relationship with the USMNT captain.
Yunus Musah has reflected on his first few months with Italian giants AC Milan, paying tribute to USMNT teammate Christan Pulisic.
Milan sit top of Serie A after eight matches, winning seven of their opening eight league fixtures. Musah has featured in six of those matches and most recently provided the crucial assist in a 1-0 victory over Genoa.
The goal was a 90th-minute winner from Pulisic, Musah’s international teammate and captain. In an interview with Italian publication La Gazzeta dello Sport Musah, who speaks fluent Italian, explained how his relationship with Pulisic has helped him settle with a new team.
“[He helps] a lot, and not only on the pitch. Christian is a special player, with great quality, it’s really a privilege to have him in the same club team.”
“We are also developing a special relationship off the pitch and this is an important thing”.
Musah happy with return to Italy
The 20-year-old midfielder was born in New York City but moved to the Italian town of Castelfranco Veneto at a young age. He subsequently moved to London, before joining Spanish side Valencia at the age of 16.
After four years in Valencia, breaking through to become a regular in LaLiga, he was signed by AC Milan for a fee of around €18 million ($19.8m). Now back in Italy after a decade away, Musah is pleased with his first months in Milan.
“I’m very happy,” he said. “I knew I had to be patient to get my opportunities, but everything happened faster than expected. Suddenly I found myself making an impact on the team and becoming a starter.”
After working his way into the team Musah has started three of Milan’s last four Serie A fixtures, all of which the team won. Head coach Stefano Pioli has used the 20-year-old in a variety of midfield roles, a testament to the USMNT star’s adaptability.
Musah explained: “I immediately felt the trust of my teammates and the coach, I couldn’t really ask for more. To be able to contribute and above all to win at AC Milan is really nice.”
