Miguelín: “This triumph is all down to the defence”

There were two reasons to celebrate for Miguel Sayago Martí ‘Miguelín’ last night, not only did he captain Spain’s Futsal team to a record their seventh European crown against Russia last night, he also finished as the tournament’s top scorer. But the ElPozo Murciawinger preferred to deflect the latter achievement away from the team’s success in Belgrade. “Winning the Golden Shoe award and scoring six goals was the least of it – the team were able to win the EUROs because of the hard work and concentration shown in defence,” he said. “Right since the start of the tournament, I’ve been amazed by the unity within the group – we’ve managed to overcome the setbacks we've encountered. I hope this is going to be a long night of celebrations because being crowned champions of Europe doesn’t happen every day”.
