REAL MADRID - ATLÉTICO
Benzema forced off at break in Real's derby defeat
The 28-year-old did not make it back out for the second half of the reverse to Atlético after seeing injury issues flare up at the Bernabéu.
Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema was withdrawn at half time of his side's La Liga defeat to city rivals Atlético on Saturday.
Speaking post-match, Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane explained the move to replace him with academy product Borja Mayoral.
"We took him off because he had problems," Zidane said. "He was feeling the effects of the pain [in his hip] again and had discomfort in his hamstring."
Despite the presence of Jesé Rodríguez and Lucas Vázquez on the Real bench, the coach opted to give Mayoral a run-out in the wake of his outstanding recent form for Los Blancos' Under-19s in the UEFA Youth League.
