Griezmann breaks his Atleti duck against Barcelona
The France striker scored three against Barça in the blue and white of Real Sociedad but had never found the net against the culés for Atlético.
Antoine Griezmann finally broke his duck against Barcelona representing Atlético when he found the net in the first half of the Champions League encounter between the sides on Wednesday night. In seven previous games against the Azulgrana since joining Atlético in 2014 the France striker has failed to score. When playing for Real Sociedad, Barcelona’s Liga bogey team, Griezmann scored three times in 10 appearances.
Griezmann’s first half effort was his 28th goal of the season; he has hit 20 in the league, three in the Copa del Rey and five in Europe. The Atlético number seven hadn’t scored since the group stages of this year’s tournament, against Galatasaray in the Calderón.
Griezmann then applied the icing to Atlético's cake from the spot after Andrés Inietsa handled Flilpe Luis' through-ball in the area, burying the penalty to take his personal tally to two for the night and Atlético into the draw for the Champions League semi-finals on Friday.
