Premier League Champions

Leicester City: Premier League Champions 2015/16

Leicester City are Premier League Champions 2015/16: As if achieving the near-impossible wasn't enough, Leicester have gone and done it without kicking a ball, and with two matches to spare.

Update:

FACUNDO ARRIZABALAGAEFE

Leicester's march towards the improbable became unstoppable on a historic night at Stamford Bridge. Premier League Champions 2015/16. Tottenham failed to keep their dream alive, allowing Chelsea to draw the game level at 2-2 after the visitors had gone 2-0 ahead before half-time.

In the end, Leicester didn't even have to kick a ball, their work was already done as they had faced down every doubt, every anticipated failure, every oracle, doomteller and soothsayer got it wrong. The team that wobbled precariously over relegation last season has won the title this season.

Leicester have defied 5000-1 odds and lifted the Premier League.

It's difficult to know where to begin. This story of stories has confounded commentators and left the experts in a state of complete shock. Stats, facts and algorithms were rendered obsolete by a squad hell-bent on proving that unity and self-belief can triumph over established wisdom and existing hierarchies.

The Premier League layer-cake may never be the same again after the Foxes sawed straight through the sense of Premier League entitlement that had taken root at the top of the table.

Only 5 clubs have won the Premier League in 24 years. There hasn't been a new winner since Nottingham Forest in 1977/78.

So many stories to tell.. First there was Ranieri, chased out of Greece by an angry torch-wielding mob only to reinvent himself at the Foxes as the avuncular inspiration for an unlikely gathering of "has-beens" and unheard-ofs.

Leicester's squad sheet at the start of the season read more like an ode to a relegation battle than a title-challenging soneta, but with a host of revelations and a team that refused to lose,  the blues have captured the international imagination and done something truly remarkable.

The players will be immortalised on the streets of the city they have brought to a collective climax beyond their wildest dreams.

2016 Footballer of the Year Jamie Vardy has been the lead story, a plotline that even Hollywood might have rejected were it not unfolding right before our very eyes, the 29 year-old was playing non-league football only a few seasons ago

Then there's Riyad Mahrez, and N'Golo Kanté, and Danny Drinkwater, and Okazaki. Don't forget Kasper Schmeichel, who follows in his father's footsteps,

Who would have imagined that the defensive partnership of Robert Huth and Wes Morgan would be lifting the Premier League at the end of the season.

These sort of things are simply not supposed to happen in the modern, monetized game of football.

They haven't scored the most goals, nor have they conceded the fewest, but their efficiency at converting chances and absorbing opposition pressure, of pressing and moving as different parts of the same machine have brought glory to a town that could hardly have imagined what the 2015/16 season held in store.

Leicester have written a story that will be told for generations to come.
