With a sensational free-kick, 31 minutes into today's Copa América semi-final against the USA, Messi brought up his 55th goal with the 'Abiceleste' overtaking the previous all-time record of 54 held by Gabriel Batistuta.

Messi has required 110 official games to break the previous record. Batistuta scored 54 goals in 77 matches with the national side between 1991 and 2002.
