Real Madrid cannot lose sight of the current situation around them if their goal to make Paul Pogba the first major signing of the Zidane era is to materialise. As we understand it, the early negotiations between the player's agent, Mino Raiola, and Manchester United are already in porgress.

Stealing a march

The English giants know that the French midfielder, currently looking forward to a quarter final tie in Paris against Iceland on Sunday, is a main target for Madrid and they want to move as fast as possible in the hope of securing the deal. With Juventus recently putting the pretty sum of, at least, 120 million euros on the player's head - not to mention the player and agent demands - Los Blancos paused for thought and this has opened a window of opportunity for Mourinho's staff to step in.

Raiola has an excellent relationship with the Manchester club at the moment and we've seen in the last few days transfer advancements of the Armenian, Mkhitaryan, and the Swedish legend, Ibrahimovic, both represented by the same agent as Pogba.

Difference of opinion

The European Championships have not been the most successful - so far - in terms of promoting the abilities of Pogba, and this may have given more strength to Florentino Pérez who has never been his greatest fan. However, his French coach, Zidane, has been clear that his compatriot can be the one to take the Champions League winners to the next level.

The Italian side

Juventus, for their part, see this saga quite differently. Italian newspaper, Tuttosport, normally a trusted source of information on the Turin-based club, have reported that they are making a further attempt to make one of their prized possessions sign a contract extension. In this, he would see his salary increase from the four million euros (net) that he currently enjoys to 4.5 million fixed with bonuses taking it to a potential six million. Their desire is that he signs this adding an extra three years to his contract taking it to the year 2022.
