Villarreal centre-back Mateo Musacchio is AC Milan's top priority as the Serie A side look to strengthen in defence, with reports in Italy saying the two clubs are set for crunch talks.

According to SportMediaset, Milan vice-president and CEO Adriano Galliani will seek to thrash out an agreement with Villarreal president Fernando Roig on the Spanish island of Ibiza this week.

A major stumbling block to the transfer is that the Rossoneri are understood to be struggling to come up with the Submarino Amarillo's 20-million-euro asking price for Musacchio.

With Milan said to be dependent on raising money from the sale of striker Carlos Bacca, Galliani is expected to explain the situation to Roig as he bids to strike a deal with Villarreal.

Musacchio has been a member of Villarreal's first team since 2010.
