REAL MADRID
Cristiano to miss Portugal’s upcoming matches
The Real Madrid striker will not be available for Portugal’s friendly against Gibraltar or their World Cup qualifier against Switzerland.
Cristiano Ronaldo has been ruled out of Portugal’s next two games. The Real Madrid forward will not feature on tomorrow’s squad sheet to face Gibraltar on 1 September in a friendly, and will also be sidelined for Portugal’s first qualifier for the Russia 2018 World Cup against Switzerland, scheduled to be played on 6 September.
Ronaldo will be sorely missed, particularly in the game against the Swiss, who pose possibly the biggest threat in their qualifying group.
The recently crowned European champion still awaits the all-clear from the Madrid medical staff as he continues his recovery from the knee injury picked up in the final of Euro 2016 against hosts France. The Madrid marksman continues to make headway, however, and is expected to make a return on 10 September against Osasuna in the Santiago Bernabéu.
