Bayern stumble yet again
Carlo Ancelotti’s side were held to a 2-2 draw at Eintracht Frankfurt, failing to win for a third straight game, while Cologne move into second after a 2-1 win at Ingolstadt.
Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich failed to win for the third game on the trot on Saturday after being held to a 2-2 draw at 10-man Eintracht Frankfurt.
Goals from Robben and Kimimch not enough to overcome Eintracht
Aiming to bounce back from a 1-0 defeat in the Champions League against Atlético Madrid and a 1-1 draw against Cologne before the international break, Ancelotti’s side came up short once again but remain top of the Bundesliga table, two points clear of Cologne.
Robert Lewandowski started on the bench but his absence didn’t show as Bayern went ahead after just 11 minutes through Arjen Robben. Pegged back just before half-time by Szabolcs Huszti’s goal, Joshua Kimmich restored the visitors’ lead shortly after the hour and it looked as if they would hang on for the win after Huszti was sent off for a second yellow a few minutes later but Marco Fabian equalized 12 minutes from time.
Cologne rise to second, Ingolstadt go bottom
Bayern sit two points clear of second-placed Cologne, who are enjoying their best start to the season since the Bundesliga started in 1962. French striker Anthony Modeste scored both goals in the first-half including a converted penalty in their 2-1 win at Ingolstadt, for whom Lukas Hinterseer netted a late penalty.
The result saw Ingolstadt drop to the bottom of the table, replacing Hamburg, who picked up a point in a goalless draw at Borussia Mönchengladbach. Gladbach, at Celtic in the Champions League on Wednesday, missed two penalties as Lars Stindl fired his spot-kick off the crossbar after Andre Hahn had his first-half effort saved.
Hoffenheim win, Schalke and Dortmund draw
Unbeaten Hoffenheim are fifth after their 2-1 win at Freiburg, thanks to goals from Sandro Wagner and an Andrej Kramic penalty. Algeria midfielder Nabil Bentaleb, on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, scored his first goal for Schalke thanks to goal-line technology, in a 1-1 draw at Augsburg.
On Friday, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang missed a penalty and hit the bar before scoring to earn fourth-placed Borussia Dortmund a 1-1 home draw against Hertha Berlin in third.
