Odegaard optimism

The Norweigan midfielder Martin Odegaard spoke yesterday to Real Madrid TV about his positive feelings following recent performances.

"I scored for my national team [under-21s] and with Castilla [against Socuéllamos]. I hope I can continue scoring goals," the youngster quite simply stated.

Stamford Bridge for Pepe?

As we have seen over recent days, there are a number of Real Madrid players renewing their contract terms and extending their planned time in the Spanish capital. Central defender Pepe is expected to join this list, however, according to the Daily Mail Chelsea have been making enquiries into the possibility of adding him to their squad from next summer. The Portuguese European Championship winner's current contract runs out on 30 June 2017.

Copa del Rey times

Although most teams have a small break in the busy fixture list to look forward to next week, Real Madrid have a cup game on Wednesday evening. This match, originally due for later in the year, was rescheduled due to a clash with the club's trip to Japan for the Club World Cup. The game against Cultural Leonesa will be played at 21:00 CEST.

On this day...a Welshman hit the headlines

It was today, 20 October 2010, when Real Madrid star Gareth Bale got many people around the footballing world take serious notice of him as he scored a hat-trick for the London club against Inter Milan. For fans of Tottenham Hotspurs, and others familiar with the young man at the time, this was something that had been coming but the famous "taxi for Maicon" night thrust him into the spotlight. A few years later, of course, Bale became the most expensive transfer when he joined the Spanish giants.
