Barcelona's Anoeta ordeal: six seasons without a win

Depending on Madrid's result against Sporting Gijón on Saturday, another slip-up for Luis Enrique's men on Sunday could see their title hopes slip away.

A white and blue nightmare

Anoeta has become a bona fide ordeal for Barcelona in recent seasons. Los Culés have not won in San Sebastián in any competition since 5 May 2007 and a run of unfavourable results have often led to questions being asked. Nevertheless, although La Real's stadium has overseen defeats for Pep Guardiola, Tito Vilanova, Tata Martino and Luis Enrique, Los Azulgranas have, on more than one occasion, run away as league champions, with the exception of the 2011-12 season under Guardiola and the 2013-14 campaign with the Argentinean coach.

Luis Enrique's decisions

Barcelona have visited Anoeta seven times since 2007 - six in LaLiga and one in the Copa del Rey. In the first match on 4 January 2015, Luis Enrique made the decision to leave Alves, Piqué, Rakitic, Neymar and Messi warming the bench, a decision, following defeat, which left the Asturian coach's tenure teetering on the brink. That said, Barcelona ended up winning the treble in the same season.

Criticism

Last season, Luis Enrique's side were held to a 2-2 draw at Villarreal before the international break in March. Following the internationals Madrid won El Clásico 1-2 at the Camp Nou before Barça slumped to a 1-0 defeat at Anoeta, leading to heavy criticism over Luis Enrique's team selection.
