Two teams are already in to the Concacaf Champions Cup semifinals after the first batch of games came to an end last night. Now Toluca and the LA Galaxy meet in Los Angeles for the second leg with the tie still up for grabs after an opening match that was full of fireworks and attacking soccer.

Paulinho heroics in first leg

After a first round Bye, Toluca made light work of San Diego FC in the round of 16, and now are not setting their sights on the semifinals after taking care of business in front of their home fans last week. A 4-2 scoreline puts the Red Devils in prime position to advance to the next round but LA Galaxy will be holding on to hope after scoring two away goals.

Now the Galaxy return home looking looking to be the third of three teams to make it to the semifinal after LAFC held off the defending champions, Cruz Azul in the second leg last night from Puebla, Mexico. Nashville went to Mexico and took a 1-0 win out of Estadio Azteca against Club America as two MLS sides knocked out two of the winningest clubs in tournament history.

Toluca won the first leg in front of their home fans thanks to their star talisman Paulinho who posted a CCC hat trick from Estadio Nemesio Diez. It was Nicolas Castro that put the hosts up in the 12th minute and right before the halftime break, Paulinho got his first of three goals on the night.

Reus gives Galaxy a chance

Marco Reus came on for the Galaxy in the second half and seemed to give the visitors a sense of purpose, setting up the 2-1 for Garbiel Pec in the 66th minute. Paulinho jumped on to a loose ball at the top of the area for his second of the night in the 72nd minute before Rues got a got of his own to make it 3-2 just four minutes later. Paulinho put the exclamation mark on the night with his hat trick on a clearance from the Galaxy that was deflected into the back of the net in the 85th.

The winner of the tie will advance to the next round where they will take on LAFC, who beat Cruz Azul 4-1 on aggregate last night. If the Galaxy come back, we could have an El Trafico match up in the Concacaf Champions Cup semifinals, but they will have to mount a comeback tonight from Dignity Health Sports Park from Carson, California. Kickoff is at 9 p.m. ET, 6 p.m. PT while Seattle host Tigers UANL in the late kick.
