Rumours surrounding the future plans of Sevilla sporting director Monchi have associated the former keeper with a move to AS Roma and on Wednesday several Italian media outlets, including La Gazzetta dello Sport and SportMediaset, reported that a deal between the Serie A club and Monchi has been sealed.
Sevilla success
Monchi has been in his current post since 2000 and has been instrumental in Sevilla’s successes and in nurturing youth talent and setting up a scouting system that has reaped incredible dividends. During his tenure, Sevilla have won two Uefa Cups, three Europa Leagues, two Copas del Rey, the Spanish Supercup and the European Supercup as well as reaching the knock-out stages of the Champions League this season.
There has been no official confirmation from either Roma, Sevilla or Monchi, while Sevilla president José Castro has always stated that he would fight tooth and nail to hold on to the architect of so much of Sevilla’s recent triumphs.
