Kane strikes
Harry Kane grabbed a hat trick in Tottenham's 4-0 demolition of West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, a result which puts Spurs second in the standings.
Week to remember
It was one-way traffic from the moment Kane put Spurs ahead on12 minutes; Gareth McAuley turned the ball into his own net before Kane completed the win in the second period. It was Tottenham's sixth consecutive win, while Kane, who takes his personal tally to 15 goals capped a memorable week, following the birth of his first child, daughter Ivy Jane last weekend.
The only sore point for Pochettino was the loss of Jan Vertonghen to what looked like a serious ankle injury halfway through the second half, the defender left the field in tears.
Mousa Dembélé, who was excellent throughout, was involved before Victor Wanyama played the ball into the feet of Christian Eriksen, who laid a short pass into the path of Kane on the edge of the West Brom box. The forward turned quickly and with Foster advancing, lifted the ball over the goalkeeper and in off the left-hand post. Kane should have added a second goal soon later when he launched himself to meet Wanyama's cross with a diving header, only for Foster to deny with with an equally outstanding, point-blank save.
Own goal
But the reprieve was brief as Tottenham's relentless pressure produced a second goal within a minute. This time Foster could not prevent the ball from entering as Eriksen's low shot from the edge of the area took two deflections, including one off McAuley, to double the locals' lead.
From that moment on, a Spurs victory was inevitable and Foster was drawn into making another great save, tipping a Kane strike onto the post. Albion manager Tony Pulis reshaped his side at the interval, starting the second half like their hosts, playing a 3-4-3. The switch appeared to work, with West Brom winger Matt Phillips firing narrowly wide with his side's first meaningful effort on Hugo Lloris's goal. But the visitors' reaction didn't last long as Tottenham quickly regained control, although they once again found Foster difficult to beat.
Kane makes it three
The third goal eventually came in the 77th minute when Kane acrobatically turned home Kyle Walker's right-wing cross after McAuley had been caught in possession. Kane completed his hat-trick five minutes later when he exchanged passes with Alli, who played in his England team mate with a superb, scooped pass, and the forward beat the keeper with a close-range volley. Spurs move up to second provisionally with Liverpool and Manchester City both in action tomorrow, against Manchester United and Everton respectively.
