Danilo snubbed Zidane during substitution - report

Danilo, who was booed off by a number of fans after a poor performance against Celta Vigo, didn't offer his hand to Real Madrid coach Zidane as he was replaced by Karim Benzema.

Real Madrid right-back Danilo reportedly refused to give Zinedine Zidane a handshake when substituted during the defeat to Celta Vigo on Wednesday night.

Gesticulating angrily

Although the incident was not captured by TV cameras, Spanish radio station Cadena Cope affirm that when the French coach replaced Danilo – who was having a particularly poor game – with Karim Benzema on 80 minutes, the Brazilian defender walked past Zidane without acknowledging him.

What was caught on camera, however, was Danilo’s visible frustration (pictured above) at being called off, gesticulating angrily after spotting his number held up by the fourth official.

Audible smattering of boos

The Brazilian then had to endure an audible smattering of boos from the Bernabéu faithful as he trudged off the pitch, which only added to his ire.

His performance in the shock Copa del Rey loss to Celta – Madrid’s second-consecutive defeat –also served to increase question marks over the player’s defensive qualities; doubts which have hung over Danilo since he joined the club.

Danilo was guilty of not tracking back for Iago Aspas’ opener on Wednesday; a mistake that followed his calamitous own goal in the loss to Sevilla last week.
