Official statement from Alavés
An official club statement issued on Saturday afternoon, before the Celta Vigo - Real Madrid match was officially postponed, read as follows:
Following the contrasting information about the possible suspension of the League match between Real Club Celta de Vigo and Real Madrid C.F, and in the absence of a final decision by the Professional Football League, Deportivo Alavés wishes to state the following:
“We share the position of public institutions in Vigo to prioritize the safety of the spectators and therefore it is obligatory to evaluate objectively the suspension of the meeting.
“We urge that the Professional Football League evaluate all possible options, such as limiting areas of the stadium that could endanger the safety of spectators and players, or the possibility of staging the encounter in another location.
“Given these facts, and with the objective of not altering the competition of the Copa del Rey, Deportivo Alavés asks the Professional Football League and the Spanish Football Federation to postpone the return leg of the semifinals scheduled for next Wednesday February 8, so that both teams face the match on an equal footing.
