Just the one

A single goal was all Real Madrid needed to draw level with a 73-year goal-scoring record in Spanish football, currently held by Barcelona. When Los Blancos' fans cheered Gareth Bale's headed finish against Villarreal at Estadio de la Cerámica (the first in an incredible winning comeback), the team made it 44 consecutive games finding the back of the net, equalling Barça's consecutive goal-scoring run between 1942 and 1944.

Records

Despite their recent hiccup against Valencia, Zidane's side march on, particularly in front of goal, and have already overtaken Luis Enrique's record of 39 games unbeaten in the process. Cristiano Ronaldo's header on Wednesday at Mestalla was Madrid's only goal in a 2-1 defeat; nevertheless, it still managed to keep up their run of beating the opposition keeper, and was their 43rd game seeing the onion bag bulge.

Strikes

Over the course of this run, Real's record reads 32 wins, nine draws and three defeats, with Cristiano the sharpest shooter with 27 goals, followed by Benzema (14), Morata (12) and Ramos (9). Bale's goal - incidentally followed by those of Cristiano and Morata - sees them rewrite the history books and with the next game home to Las Palmas, Zidane will hope to take another record from their bitter rivals.
