Real Madrid | Benzema: 35 players have more LaLiga goals
Real striker Karim Benzema will lead the line against Eibar today in search of his first LaLiga goal since the beginning of January.
Real Madrid have hit a sticky patch in LaLiga in recent times - much like striker Karim Benzema, who hasn't netted in his last seven appearances in LaLiga.
Unable to recreate European form in LaLiga
Benzema has been in excellent scoring form in the Champions League this season, hitting five in seven and producing a fine display against Napoli last month.
But in Primera División, it's a different story: so much so that no fewer than 35 players have now notched more than the Frenchman's haul of five this term.
Five Real colleagues have more
That includes five Real team-mates. Cristiano Ronaldo has 18, Gareth Bale (whose season has included a lengthy injury lay-off) has seven, and Álvaro Morata - Benzema's understudy at centre-forward - has eight.
And with six each, even Isco and Sergio Ramos have more than the 29-year-old, whose last LaLiga goal came in a 5-0 win over Granada on 7 January.
Zidane backing for Benzema
Asked about the striker's struggles in front of goal on Friday, Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane looked to get behind his compatriot, saying: "I'm happy with all my players, whatever happens, and I'll defend them all the way, right to the end."
With no Cristiano, Bale or Morata to provide the goals against Eibar, Zidane will be hoping Benzema can end his barren spell this afternoon.
