Córdoba player puts club gear up for sale on second-hand site

Córdoba midfielder Esteve Monterde has adertised his club jacket for sale on a Spanish second-hand goods website for 35 euros, promising a potential buyer that the garment is “completely new and still has its label.” The 21-year-old, who has made four appearances for the relegation-threatened team this season, also promised that it would be delivered “in a bag and everything.

Esteve misplaces trousers

Apparently, Esteve, who featured for the side in last weekend’s loss away at Nastic, mislaid the trousers that completed the set and, after buying a replacement training kit, decided to sell the surplus jacket. As soon as the advert went online, a keen-eyed social media user shared it. Esteve has yet to make any comment.

One Twitter wag noted wryly: “If Esteve managed to sell his jacket for 35 euros it’s confirmation that he’s better at haggling than he is on the pitch.”

According to a report in Spanish daily ABC last year, the average salary of a player in Segunda División is 77,500 euros, 17 times more than the national average wage.

Córdoba later issued a message defending the player. "He feels this badge," it read.
