Las Palmas boss Quique Setién announced in a press conference on Saturday that he will step down at the end of the season.

"There will be time for farewells at the end of the season"

When conversations began [over a new contract] it appeared to be only a matter of time before an agreement was reached as the questions to be resolved were minimal, but they have been increasing as time has gone on. Those differences have now become irreconcilable. I cannot thank the club enough for taking me on 18 months ago. It is clear in my mind that we will fight until the end of the season to finish in the best position possible. There will time for farewells at the end of the season. I am aware of the frustration this could cause the fans, who have given me their complete support since I arrived in the Canary Islands, but I think this is the right decision,” Setién said.

Las Palmas rescue job

Setién joined Las Palmas in October 2015 in place of Paco Herrera, with the club in the relegation places. The former Racing Santander, Atlético and Spain midfielder guided the side to safety in his first season and started off 2016-17 in the upper reaches of the table. Las Palmas are currently 11th and their survival practically assured as they are 16 points clear of the relegation zone.
