Alarm bells in Munich as Neuer undergoes foot operation
With the Champions League quarter final first leg against Real Madrid just two weeks away, the goalkeeper has had his left foot operated on.
With the clock ticking down until Real Madrid visit the Allianz Arena to face Bayern Munich on April 12th, alarm bells are ringing in the Bavarian capital with the news that goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has undergone an operation to address a problem in his left foot.
The goalkeeper was ruled out of Germany's recent internationals (the 1-0 friendly match win against England and 1-4 WC qualifier win over Azerbaijan). The news of the operation was confirmed this morning on the Bayer Munich official website with a brief message stating:
Neuer status via Bayern
"Manuel Neuer underwent a successful minor operation by Prof Dr Markus Walther on Wednesday evening after sustaining an injury to his left foot in training.
The 31-year-old Germany keeper will be sidelined for FC Bayern's Bundesliga matches against Augsburg on Saturday and Hoffenheim next Tuesday."
Brazilian player Douglas Costa is another doubt for Carlo Anceloitti with the key Champions League quarter final on the horizon. The 26 year old recently underwent a minor knee operation which hasn't had the desired effect causing yesterday's rehabilitation session on sand being cancelled due to the player still feeling discomfort. Bayern medics will monitor the situation closely but if his problems persist then the likely scenario would be a major operation to address the problem.
