Real Madrid are interested in signing Benjamin Mendy from Monaco should their approach for Theo Hernández be repelled. The club have a very strong core of players but there is still a need to touch up different positions in an effort to improve the overall quality and depth of Zindedine Zidane's side. That is why the club have set about singing Benjamin Mendy, the 22-year-old left-back. Marcelo currently lays claim to that position but he has no natural sucessor and with all signs pointing towards Fabio Coentrao's departure from the Santiago Bernabeú in the summer, Real Madrid need cover.

The main objective is to convince Atletico Madrid to sell Theo Hernández, their left-back currently on loan at Alavés, but there are several teams in for the French defender.
