The fourth meeting in four seasons between Real Madrid and Atlético in the Champions League has a few numbers of interest behind it.
16 different nationalities
The two squads are comprised of players from 16 different countries and three continents. Real Madrid have nine countries represented and Atlético 12. Between the two sides there are 16 Spaniards, five Frenchmen, four Portuguese and four Brazilians. All of the players are from Europe or Latin America, other than Ghana’s Thomas Partey, the only African in the two sides.
Average age: 27,45 years old
Real and Atlético have a similar average age. Zinedine Zidane’s side are slightly younger (27.2 years on average) tan Atlético (27.7). The youngest player on either side is Atlético’s Lucas Hernández (Feb 14, 1996), who is closely followed by Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio (Jan 21, 1996). Real’s oldest player is Pepe (34) and Atlético’s is Tiago (36).

Real Madrid are streets ahead of Atlético in terms of titles won, with the Chamartín club hoovering up 81 in their history to Atlético’s 28. One of the two sides will feature in the final in Cardiff, where they will play either Monaco or Juventus for the 2016-17 Champions League title.
80 euros: the cheapest ticket
The cheapest ticket available for the Bernabéu leg of the tie was priced at 80 euros, with the most expensive seats going for 335 euros. For a seat in the VIP sections of the stadium the price is between 850 and 1,000 euros.
€1.26 billion: the total cost of the two squads
According to Transfermarkt, Real Madrid’s current squad is valued at 764.8 million euros. Atlético’s is worth 263.3 million less at 501.5 million euros. The two most expensive players on either side are Cristiano Ronaldo (valued at 100 million euros) and Antoine Griezmann (80 million euros).
Only one previous semi-final
The two Madrid clubs have met only once before at this stage of the European Cup / Champions League, in 1958-59. Real Madrid won the first leg 2-1 in the Bernabéu with goals from Chuzo (Atlético), Rial and Ferenc Puskas (Real Madrid). In the return leg a goal from Atlético’s Collar was enough to force a playoff in a neutral stadium (away goals were not counted then). In Zaragoza’s La Romareda, Real Madrid won 2-1, Collar scoring for Atlético and Puskas and Alfredo di Stéfano finding the net for Real Madrid.
