Aspas harshly sent off for alleged dive
Celta Vigo's Iago Aspas received a second yellow card from referee Martínez Munuera, despite seemingly being fouled in the box by Sergio Ramos.
Iago Aspas was sent off in harsh circumstances as Celta Vigo lost 1-4 to Real Madrid in Balaídos, allowing Los Blancos to march on towards the LaLiga title.
Aspas accused of dive
Iago Aspas received his marching orders in the 61st minute, for a second yellow card. The Celta man arrived to the ball before Sergio Ramos in the Real Madrid penalty area. As Aspas sought to shield the ball to prevent it going out of play, Ramos clumsily clattered in to him from behind, and sent him to the turf.
Yet, instead of pointing to the spot, Martínez Munuera signalled a free-kick, and dug in to his pocket to pull out Aspas' second yellow card of the evening.
Minutes later, Cristiano Ronaldo also appeared to be fouled in the box. On that occasion, the referee gave neither a penalty, nor a free-kick to Celta.
Varane handball protests drew first yellow
Aspas received his first yellow of the evening after 38 minutes. Raphael Varane appeared to handle the ball just outside the box and Aspas, a little to vociferous, was booked for his protests.
