Inter Milan have targeted Real Madrid midfielder James Rodríguez as their marquee signing of the summer and have tabled an opening offer of 42 million euros for the midfielder.
Sportitalia reported on Thursday that negotiations between the clubs had commenced and AS has been able to confirm Inter’s initial bid, which is considerably below what the Bernabéu board would like to pocket after signing James for 80 million euros from Monaco in 2014. However, Real are in the mood to business over the Colombia international, who has found playing time in the Spanish capital at a premium since Zinedine Zidane took over as manager.
Inter also interested in Pepe
Pepe is also involved in the potential deal and will be a free agent when his contract expires in June. Ubiquitous super-agent Jorge Mendes represents both players and Inter have a two-year contract offer on the table for Pepe, but it is expected that the Serie A club will take both players or neither.
Manchester United in for James
Inter’s ownership, Suning Holdings Group, made a bid of 85 million euros for James last summer, which was accepted by Madrid but rejected by the player, who elected to remain in Madrid to try and win back his place in the team. That not being the case, Inter have returned with a considerably lower offer to get the ball rolling and nose ahead of Manchester United, who are also reportedly interested in signing James and, unlike Inter, can offer Champions League football next season.
