Messi flies to Barcelona after his wedding to sign new contract
Lionel Messi returns to Spain the day after his wedding to end doubts about his future at Barça. A deal could be reached in the next few days.
Having tied the knot with childhood sweetheart Antonella Rocuzzo in Argentina on Friday, Lionel Messi’s next step will be an immediate return to Barcelona in order to extend his contract at Camp Nou.
Messi to make swift return to Barcelona
Messi will return to Spain on Saturday, the day after his wedding. Messi and Barça could reach a deal within the next few days, which would allow followers of the Blaugrana to breathe a deep sigh of relief. The player intends to remain at the club, and has been buoyed by the effort that those upstairs at Barcelona have put in to his contract renewal.
If Messi previously had doubts about remaining at Barça, they have now dissipated. He is firmly committed to the club where he has spent his entire professional career.
Barça face testing pre-season
Barcelona will give Messi time to relax with his new wife and their two sons. Ernesto Valverde’s squad will meet for pre-season on July 12. Yet it will be a demanding pre-season, with a tour to the United States, as well as clashes against Madrid in a friendly match and in the Spanish Super Cup.
Messi wants to have his future resolved before that busy spell. His marriage was the first thing. Now, his thoughts turn to his contract.
