Reports: Chelsea close in on deal for Real Madrid's Alvaro Morata
The Real Madrid striker could be set to join Chelsea despite continued interest from AC Milan as the Premier League champions look to replace Diego Costa.
According to Gianluca di Marzio, Alvaro Morata is closing in on a deal to Chelsea. The Real Madrid striker reportedly insists on a move away from the club this summer having not played as often as he might have liked last season. The potential transfer could now open the door for los Blancos to pursue Kylian Mbappé with more rigour than we have seen to date despite recent reports that they will not try to sign a striker should Morata leave.
AC Milan were keen on signing the striker and were said to be close to a deal but the two clubs involved in the process were unable to come to an agreement over the players' price with Real Madrid refusing to budge on their €90 million valuation. Chelsea reportedly offered €9 million a year with the Italian club trumping that offer by million to convince the Spanish striker but it seems the reigning Premier League champions could be about to get their man.
Chelsea are in need of a striker after Diego Costa was informed he was not in Antonio Conte's plans for next season and they also lost out on Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United. The deal could help Atletico Madrid out in any potential deal for Costa, who went on Instagram live to dance in Atletico jersey while on his extended holidays in Brazil.
