Zinedine Zidane has described Cristiano Ronaldo as "from another planet" in an interview in which he looked back on his appointment as Real Madrid coach.

Since taking over from Rafa Benítez in January 2016, the legendary former midfielder has led Real to a trophy haul that includes two Champions Leagues, a Club World Cup and a first LaLiga title since 2012.

And speaking to beIN Sports France, Zidane talked about his playing style as a coach - and what he would have done had he not carved out a career in football.

Zidane's interview with beIN Sports France:

Becoming Real boss: "I reached an agreement with Florentino Pérez very quickly. I was preparing a Castilla match when Florentino called me [and asked me] to take over the first team. That's the way he works: he follows a clear strategy, knows where he's going and what he wants."

His style of play as a coach: "I want my team to play good football - after all, I have extraordinary players at my disposal. [We want] to keep the ball and have more possession than our opponents, even against Barcelona."

Resting Cristiano: "It was easy to persuade him; he's a very intelligent guy and he knows himself. Cristiano pushes his team-mates on; he's the best."

How would you define Sergio Ramos, Cristiano and Karim Benzema? "Ramos is the leader, Cristiano is from another planet and Benzema is pure talent."

A strength and a weakness? "I'm patient, but I'm also a strange guy."

If you hadn't become a professional footballer, what would you have been? "I'd have been a delivery driver."
