Barcelona sporting director Robert Fernández announced the club would make “one or two” further signings during the presentation of Ousmane Dembélé at Camp Nou but failed to land any of their targets on the final day of the transfer window, among them Argentina international Ángel di María.

L’Équipe reported on Tuesday that negotiations had reached an advanced stage but the deal eventually fell through over 10 million euros. PSG had set the fee for Di María at 60 million, but Barcelona’s final offer was 45 plus a further five million in add-ons, the French daily said. PSG remained unmoved and Barça did not go back with an improve bid despite the player’s desire to move to Catalonia.

After pocketing 222 million euros for the sale of Neymar to the Parisian club, Barcelona signed Paulinho, Dembélé, Nelson Semedo and Gerard Deulofeu for a combined cost of 187.5 million.
