ATLÉTICO DE MADRID

Diego Costa becomes Atletico Madrid's most expensive signing

The fee for the Chelsea striker will exceed the record 40 million euro operation for Radamel Falcao. Vitolo is fourth on the list, just behind Jackson Martínez in third.

Diego Costa is set to return to Atlético as the most expensive signing in the club's history - the operation will exceed the 40 million euros which the Rojiblancos paid Porto for Radamel Falcao in 2011, the most they have ever paid for a player.

After Falcao, the third player on Atlético's list of record signings is Jackson Martínez, who cost 36,75 million euros but left after failing to make his mark at the Calderón. Just behind the Colombian is Vitolo - the most recent addition, who Atlético signed in July, paying the player's 36.5 million euro buy-out fee. Kevin Gameiro, who also joined from Sevilla, cost Atleti 32 million in 2013. The following season Antoine Griezmann joined from Real Sociedad for 30 million - the biggest fee the Basque club have ever received for one of their players.

Atleti's list makes interesting reading - if only to see the price they paid for Golden Shoe winner Diego Forlán, or Christian Viera, who ended as the league's top scorer in his one and only season with the club.
