Marcelo fumed at Modric: "You say I've messed up... and you haven't?"
Real Valladolid vs Real Madrid live: LaLiga Santander
There was tension amid the Real Madrid ranks as ZInedine Zidane's side fell to a deserved defeat against Girona at Montilivi.
Marcelo and Modric have mid-match tiff
Spanish television station Deportes Cuatro captured a curt exchange of words between Marcelo and Luka Modric.
The Brazilian, who was substituted after 66 minutes as Zidane opted for a tactical reshuffle, lost possession and was unable to win it back. That prompted criticism from Croatian midfielder Luka Modric. In response, Marcelo barked:
"You say that I've messed up... and you haven't?"
Both players reconciled soon after, but it was not the only moment of tension among white-shirted players.
Real Madrid lack cohesion on and off the pitch
Isco made gestures towards Karim Benzema that betrayed his frustration with the French striker, while Cristiano Ronaldo appeared displeased when Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane arrived at the same spot as him to attack the ball at a set piece.
A lack of cohesion extended to the post-match interviews. Zinedine Zidane exuded calmness, as he always does, with his comment that "there is a long way to go and I am not worried." Casemiro, on the other hand, appeared slightly more flustered. The defensive midfielder contradicted his manager with his acknowledgment that "everyone is concerned."
