The president of the Liga club, Miguel Ángel Ramírez, said that the Basque coach retains his backing despite losing all four of his games in charge.

Las Palmas president Miguel Ángel Ramírez has publicly backed Pako Ayestarán despite the recently installed coach losing his first four games in charge of the club against Barça (3-0), Celta (2-5), Villarreal (4-0) and Deportivo (1-3).

The latest defeat represented an unwanted Liga record for Ayestarán, who is now the only coach in Liga history to lose 11 consecutive matches after his brief reign at Valencia ended after a run of seven uninterrupted defeats.

The Las Palmas board met on Monday after the loss to Deportivo and again on Tuesday with Ayestarán and announced that the Basque tactician will remain in his post, which he took on after Manolo Márquez resigned in September. “We must have faith [in Ayestarán],” Ramírez said, adding that “it will not be responsible if we do not give him time to set forth his style of play.”

Under Ayestarán, who was an assistant coach to both Rafa Benítez and Quique Sánchez Flores, Las Palmas have conceded double the number of goals they did under Márquez and for every decent attacking move there have been more defensive calamities to undermine them.

Las Palmas next travel to the Bernabéu to play Real Madrid, who despite their own recent problems have never lost to Las Palmas at home.
