"Could Dembélé play against Real Madrid? Possibly..."
Sakari Orava, the specialist who operated on the Barça forward's ruptured hamstring, told Spanish radio that he could make El Clásico in December.
Finnish specialist Dr Sakari Orava, who performed the operation to mend Ousmane Dembélé’s ruptured hamstring, has said that the Barcelona forward’s recuperation “is coming along a little more quickly than expected.”
Speaking on La Graderia on Catalan SER radio, Orava discussed Dembélé’s recovery programme and said that the France international “is very happy” with his progress and although he did not venture a possible return date suggested that the 20-year-old could be back in action before the new year.
Dembélé went under the knife on September 19 after injuring his left hamstring in a Liga match at Getafe, after which the club stated that he could be out of action for up to four months. The player later said on social media that he hoped to have recovered in half that time.
Dembélé could be be back in training this month
During the interview, Orava suggested that somewhere in between is a possibility. Asked if Dembélé could feature in the first Liga Clásico of the season, the surgeon replied: “Possibly, but only possibly. I cannot guarantee it.”
Orava added that Dembélé “can start working with the ball again in the middle of November” and that if the player follows his recovery schedule to the letter there is little risk of a recurrence of the problem.
“The risk is not very high. He is a young lad, the injury is healing quickly and correctly and as long he takes it easy until December, everything should go well,” Orava concluded.
